JD Hoye, President (Education reform, work-based learning, national education policy)

JD Hoye is the President of the National Academy Foundation (NAF).  With a deep commitment to preparing students for college and meaningful careers, Ms. Hoye has worked on both a grassroots level and at the highest levels of government to reform how our children are engaged in learning and how they are positioned to pursue their academic interests and career goals.  Through this work, she has become a nationally recognized leader in forging partnerships between educators and employers. >

Andrew Rothstein, PhD, Senior Director, Curriculum & Academics (Curriculum, Teaching and Learning)

Dr. Rothstein is an expert in the creation of high school curriculum. In his role at the National Academy Foundation, he oversees the creation of career-themed curriculum for use in over 500 Academies across the United States. He is also the author of several books focused on teaching and learning. >

Bill Taylor, Senior Director, Network Development and Expansion (ED Reform, Career Academy Model Development, Theme Development, Corporate Engagement)

Bill Taylor has worked for the National Academy Foundation since 2000. Prior to joining NAF in 2000, Bill was Social Studies teacher and Coordinator of the Science & Technology Institute at Martin Luther King High School in Manhattan, New York. His current responsibilities include guiding network growth through NAF’s “Year of Planning” program, a structured strategic planning process launching all new academies and building their capacity to integrate career themes with curriculum and work-based learning. >

Christel Kaufman, Director, Western Region (Education, business, school administration, small learning communities)

Christel Kaufman considers herself a generalist when it comes to education and business. She has earned multiple degrees prior to her position with NAF, her experiences included school administration, district administration, teaching, lead on Small Learning Communities (SLC) in human services, State and County government; implementation of legislation, Director of non- profit preschools, including all aspects of the business, preschool education, early intervention, counseling and parenting education.   Most of her experiences provided her with a deeper understandi >

Daniel A. Wallace, Ed.D., Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager (Curriculum planning, program development, program administration, instruction, and teacher training)

Dr. Daniel A. Wallace is the Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager for the National Academy Foundation. Dan was also a Fellow, Teaching Dialogues Program, and a Graduate School Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Education. Daniel A. Wallace was an Organizational Facilitator for Single Sites with CSOS/Talent Development High Schools, Johns Hopkins University; 2001-2004. While at Talent Development Dan was involved with whole school reform with wall-to-wall career academies on the site level and as a researcher. >

Deanna Hanson, California Director (High school restructure, small school development, youth and business/education partnership development)

Deanna Hanson is the California Director for the National Academy Foundation, working to strengthen existing academies and develop new career themed college prep academies primarily within existing high schools serving youth in inner-city schools in California. Ms. Hanson has been involved in high school restructure, small school development, youth and business/education partnership development in California for many years. >

Patti Smith, EdD, Senior Director, Network Services (Education reform, small learning communities, education development)

Dr. Smith is an expert in high school reform. She has been an educator for over 25 years, and works with high schools across the United States. Her expertise includes assisting high schools in developing small learning communities. She has written articles and a book focusing on the importance of the student voice in the high school change process. She was one of the primary consultants for the book "Breaking Ranks II: Strategies for Leading High School Reform." >

Stephen Casa, Senior Director, Network Advocacy (Education reform, National education issues)

Stephen Casa has worked for the National Academy Foundation since 2005.  He now leads a team of regional managers who are responsible for providing field-based services to NAF's nearly 500 academies  Mr. Casa started his relationship with NAF in 1991 as an Academy of Finance instructor at James Madison High School in Brooklyn, NY, shortly thereafter he became Madison's site coordinator. >
