Lenovo -- Mobile App Course

Printer-friendly version

Lenovo/NAF are working together to bring a mobile app development course to Academies of Information Technology. This course is currently in its pilot phase.  This forum is for academies involved in the pilot to discuss the process for implementation and share ideas.

Business development

Are there any business development resources that are recommended?

MIT App Developer

MIT has finally starting allowing classes access to App Developer. Is this a better choice than Java?

I have used it, just tinkering around. I have not seen a way to optimize it for Tablets, so the interface seems very phone like. If your learning outcomes are more programming focused, I think this solution waters down that outcome. If you want to focus more on the business model and the idea, and you don't want programming to limit the kids, appinventor might be nice. As always, I'd encourage kids to explore. Let them know it exists and that it might be a good sandbox.

I think this is the route we are going to take. Groups who want to attempt the programming (and some do have the experience) then they can go that route. Others can try app inventor.
Since we are doing this as an after school activity, our teachers don't have the time to dedicate to the research needed to provide instruction. It will be student guided and we are hoping for the best. I am putting the students into teams so they will have a balance of programmers and others focusing on the business model.

Sam - are there any resources available for the business development?

Curriculum

How are your schools teaching the mobile app curriculum? Will it be part of a class or after school? Are you requiring any prior experience in order to participate?
