For the third time in as many years, the Academy of Information Technology at Carencro High has placed in the Louisiana High School Technology Challenge.

This year, the team placed second in the competition. The team won first place last year, and was second in 2013. This year’s competition was held at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

The competition includes tasks focused on technology, design and effective communication. Students are presented a series of complex tasks, one of which is mandatory. All products must be completed with a four-hour time limit.

“I love this competition because it truly simulates a competitive work environment that brings out the best in our students,” Carencro Team Coach Donna Denny said in a news release. “It requires them to be both leaders and followers as they multitask together to complete all the diverse tasks. We get to see our students rise to the top of their game, the stress level is high and production levels must be precise and rapid, with strict deadlines and penalties for non-compliance. It’s both exhausting and gratifying for all involved.”

Team members were seniors Laci Bruno, Tyton Charles, Justin Gautreau, Olivia Gibson, Andrea Harris, Nathan Hoffpauir and Delman Tibbetts, along with juniors Shallon Broussard, Anthony Carlton, Thomas Contella, Jawuan Espadron, Connor Howat, Tristin Meche, Cris Russ, Josh Sias, D’Andrea Thomas and Matthew Trahan.
