A team of Academy of Information Technology & Engineering (AITE) students has been named a finalist in the NFTE World Series of Innovation contest. According to the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), the international contest is a fun, experiential activity that allows students to think creatively and invent new products or services that address every-day opportunities.

Under the leadership of AITE Business and Technology Teacher Brenda Zanga, “Team Cassidy,” made up of AITE students Cassidy Colosi, Jenny Millien and Alexandra Walker, is a finalist in the category of “IFRC Volunteer For Change.” The challenge requested that participants “Create a unique tablet or smart phone app that promotes volunteerism for a more caring society and a better world.” AITE Team Cassidy submitted a concept for an app that is aimed at helping teens fight depression, suicide, and bullying, by providing them access to live video, text, and audio chats.

According to the NFTE website, after students submitted proposals in November, a panel of judges selected the top 10 submissions in each challenge category. From those top 10 submissions, three category finalists were chosen by a committee of elite judges from the sponsoring organization. AITE Team Cassidy is one of the three finalists in their category.

Two winning teams will be selected in each category: one chosen by a committee of judges from the sponsoring organization, and one chosen by popular vote through our online voting. Vote for Team Cassidy athttps://innovation.nfte.com/projects/team-cassidy-project, between now and February 9, 2015. You can vote once a day.

The two winning teams in each category will receive a prize of $2,000 to share, and a prize of $500 for their school or other non-profit youth serving organization.
