National Academy Foundation Welcomes New Board Members

(May 25, New York) – The National Academy Foundation is pleased to announce two new additions to its Board of Directors – Daniel Doctoroff, President of Bloomberg L.P. and Lowell McAdam, President and CEO of Verizon Wireless.
Daniel L. Doctoroff is President of Bloomberg L.P., the leading global provider of financial data, analytics and news. Prior to this position he was the longest-serving deputy mayor for economic development and rebuilding of the City of New York, under Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. As Deputy Mayor, Doctoroff oversaw more than 40 City agencies, offices and corporations, including the Departments of Buildings, Transportation, Environmental Protection, Information Technology and Telecommunications, City Planning, Finance, Small Business Services, Housing Preservation and Development, the Economic Development Corporation, and the Mayor's offices of Operations and Long-term Planning and Sustainability. Deputy Mayor Doctoroff was responsible for 289 separate projects and initiatives, including the Mayor's PlaNYC agenda, which made New York a global leader in sustainability. He has also served as the Administration's point person on the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan after the devastation of 9/11.
Lowell C. McAdam is President and CEO of Verizon Wireless, the premier wireless provider with the nation's largest, most reliable wireless voice and 3G broadband data network. Prior to assuming this position, McAdam served as executive vice president and chief operating officer, helping to build Verizon Wireless into the industry’s leading wireless company. Previously, McAdam was president and CEO of PrimeCo Personal Communications, a joint venture owned by Bell Atlantic and Vodafone AirTouch. He also served as PrimeCo's chief operating officer, responsible for overseeing the build, deployment and successful launch of the new company's customer service operations and all-digital network.

The National Academy Foundation (NAF) is an acclaimed network of career-themed Academies that open doors for underserved high school students to viable careers. For nearly 30 years, NAF has refined a proven model that provides young people access to industry-specific curricula, work-based learning experiences, and relationships with business professionals. NAF Academies focus on one of four career themes: finance, hospitality & tourism, information technology, and engineering. Employees of more than 2,500 companies volunteer in classrooms, act as mentors, engage NAF students in paid internships, and serve on local Advisory Boards. During the 2009-10 school year, 500 NAF Academies served more than 53,000 students across 41 states and D.C. NAF’s national graduation rate of 90% testifies to the effectiveness this effort.
