Job Summary: The Director-Academy of Engineering will serve as the organization’s lead in the programmatic development of the Academy of Engineering, and will, in partnership with members of the Network Advocacy Team, Network Services Team, Development Team and the Network Development and Expansion Team and other NAF support teams, coordinate the major functions of the new theme development, including pilot site selection, ongoing AOE cohort selection, Year of Planning support, professional development, quality assurance, partner engagement, program evaluation and curriculum development and implementation. 


Responsibilities (includes major areas of work and percent of time spent on each function):

• Ensuring the successful day-to-day operation of the AOE. In partnership with staff from NACME and PLTW, the Director-Academy of Engineering will coordinate with teams responsible for year of planning, curriculum, evaluation, fundraising, communications, and administration. (30%)
• Implementing systems to provide quality assurance across all aspects of the AOE. (20%)
• Facilitating a relentless focus on customer service, network support and enhanced services throughout the AOE network development. (20%)
• Responsible for managing strategic growth of the AOE network, including distribution of an RFP, selection process, site visit supports, as well as general support throughout the Year of Planning and into the process of Implementation as NAF Academies of Engineering. (30%) 

 

Qualifications

Educational/Training Requirements:
• Must have at least a Masters Degree in Education or related field•
Experience:
• At least 10 years experience in schools and school change work, including with national organizations that work with educational, work-based initiatives.
• Experience in leadership positions with schools or school systems is an added plus for this position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Capable of leading, motivating, and engaging a diverse cohort of schools nationally who bring a high level of commitment and a broad range of talents and expertise to the pilot development process.
• Demonstrated experience in project management, including the ability to create and run systems to ensure that activities and projects involving multiple teams are done on time, within budget, at a high level of quality, and lead to successful, measurable outcomes.
• Experienced in managing growth, including an understanding of the organizational development issues that emerge as organizations grow and collaborate, particularly in the context of partner engagement (NACME and PLTW). Ability to understand the “big picture” and manage change and the dynamics that follow.
• Supportive of team-based, collaborative work environment that is based on open, transparent, continual communication, information sharing, and inclusive decision-making.
• Creative and entrepreneurial problem solving skills.
• An excellent communicator, in writing and orally
• Professionalism, maturity, confidence and presence to work with a dynamic set of partners, schools and districts.
• Interest in STEM-related fields and committed to the mission of NAF.
