Director, Development

Summary: 

The Director, Development will report to the Senior Director, Institutional Advancement, and will work closely with all members of the IA team to move individual and institutional donors and prospects through the donor cycle, including writing proposals and reports and ensuring all reporting requirements are met. Diversifying NAF’s fundraising base by attracting new supporters is critical to NAF’s strategic plan, and the Director, Development will split their time between institutional giving (from corporate and foundation partners) and individual giving, while prioritizing flexible funds. The Director, Development will manage a portfolio of existing corporate and foundation partners and major donors as well as prospecting for new donors. This role will act as a relationship manager for donors and will attend events that facilitate contact with donors and prospects.

The ideal candidate has leadership experience and is comfortable coaching team members.

They will work collaboratively to develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising program for individual donors, with a focus on building a strong pipeline of qualified major donors. They will also seek opportunities to promote relationships and collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to drive visibility for NAF partnerships.

In partnership, the CAO, the Senior Director, and Director are collectively responsible for raising between 65% and 75% of NAF’s annual budget. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven professional to join a growing national team focused on accelerating and diversifying revenue growth.

Educational/Training Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

  • 4 -7 years’ experience in development
  • 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience, including experience supervising staff and consultants, as well as leading cross-functional teams
  • Experience personally soliciting and closing transformative gifts; recording revenue growth and donor engagement
  • In-depth knowledge of individual and institutional gift cultivation and stewardship, and grant proposal processes
  • Proven ability to manage complex donor relationships.
  • Experience with MS Office suit and fundraising databases (Raiser’s Edge) preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A commitment to NAF’s mission and values.
  • Experience with corporate, private foundation, and major gift philanthropy, including writing and editing complex grant proposals. (Preferably in youth development, education, or community-based organizations.)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with experience working with high-level leadership and partners.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task, and prioritize needs against organizational goals and deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Salary Range:

$125,000.00
