For example, engineering students created animal and plant cells using Autodesk Inventor then went to Dallas Independent School District’s Environmental Education Center to conduct experiments and study ecosystems. At the EEC, Biology teachers reinforced plant and animal species interactions while AOE teachers discussed occupations where biology experiments are conducted. Another example is the students’ and teachers’ participation in Capital One’s Monster Coding Jam event. During the event, Algebra teachers helped the students determine the next step of their code while AOE teachers facilitated interaction with Capital One volunteers. On a work-based learning trip to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, teachers pointed out the chemical processes at the plant while the technicians and engineers spoke about careers and why accurate calculations are important. Inviting core teachers to WBL activities transformed the relationship between core and AOE teachers into a continuous conversation about how to further integrate AOE into their curriculum. AOE students and teachers now feel integrated into Kimball’s culture.
