The Janet Linton Leadership Award

recognizes outstanding academy directors and educational leaders (including district administrators, teachers, principals, etc). Created in 2006, in memory of the late San Diego Academy Director, Janet Linton, the award honors extraordinary contributions and leadership within the NAF network, at the school, district and state levels.

Site Visits

Site visits for NAF Next 2019 will take place Sunday, July 7 beginning at 2:00 pm. All site visits are guided tours and transportation will be provided for all options with the exception of the Cobo Center. You will have the opportunity to add a site visit upon registration. Pre-registration is required.

Henry Ford Museum, $45: Journey to what Condé Nast Traveler voted “one of the country’s best museums.” Step into a world where past innovations fuel the imagination of generations to come. A vibrant exploration of genius in all its forms, here you will experience the strides of America’s greatest minds while fully immersing yourself in their stories. See the story of the movers and shakers who blazed the trail to where we stand today.

Motown Museum, $40: The Motown Experience Tours, led by trained and knowledgeable guides, vividly relate the story of how Motown Records got its start and how now-famous singers rose from obscurity to international acclaim, based on talent, perseverance, and a little bit of luck. Visitors view the restored upper flat where Berry Gordy, Jr. lived during Motown’s earliest years. You will also visit the legendary and inspiring Studio A, where the Motown Sound was born and flourished.

Charles W. Wright Museum of African American History, $40: Trained tour guides will provide guided learning experiences that explore the diverse history and culture of African Americans and their African origins in ways that engage, inspire, and enrich the lives of attendees. The museum’s mission is to open minds and change lives through the exploration and celebration of African American history and culture. The Wright Museum houses over 35,000 artifacts and archival materials and is home to the Blanche Coggin Underground Railroad Collection, Harriet Tubman Museum Collection, Coleman A. Cobo Center Behind the Scenes, No Charge: Cobo Center has a proven track record of handling international events like the International G-7 Job Summit, the annual North American International Auto Show, the annual Society of Automotive Engineers International Congress, and frequent national events, i.e. visits by the President, the Vice President and foreign heads of state. Come take a guided tour and see what it takes to run a convention center with 100 meeting rooms totaling 200,000 square feet that accommodate capacities from 25 to 2,500 and one of the largest contiguous exhibit floor spaces in North America.
