As the 2023-24 school year comes to an end, it presents a valuable opportunity to reflect on and celebrate all the successes! NAF is proud to spotlight our NYC academies, students, alumni, and educators who have made a tremendous difference and earned coveted scholarships, awards, internships, and more.

Check out our roundup below!

NAF Women in Tourism Student Award:

This scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, is awarded to one graduating female student in a New York City NAF Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. Samikshya P. from the High School for Enterprise, Business & Technology, AOHT, was featured in the 3rd Annual Women in Tourism Luncheon commemorative journal, on May 29th, at City Winery in New York City, and acknowledged as the 2024 award recipient. Congratulations!

NYC Academy Foundation’s Scholarships of Excellence:

The NYC Academy Foundation’s Excellence Scholarship was created to support New York City NAF students who have successfully completed the required program of study and are on track to achieve NAFTrack Certification — an employability credential, designed by education and business leaders, that acts as NAF’s seal of college and career readiness. The mission of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to graduating NYC NAF students, who have been accepted into and are enrolled in undergraduate study in community colleges, colleges, trade schools, and universities. The Excellence Scholarship principally targets two and four-year academic programs including, but not limited to fields such as business, finance, IT, health sciences, hospitality & tourism, and engineering.

This scholarship is presented to NYC NAF graduating seniors who have met the requirements for achieving NAFTrack Certification – completing career-focused course requirements, satisfactory completion of a paid internship, or alternative internship experience. The student has demonstrated gaining a greater understanding of the world of work by participating in several work-based learning opportunities throughout the years, all while maintaining an impressive GPA.

2024 Today’s Girl, Tomorrow’s Woman (TGTW) and A Village of Womxn (aVOW) Scholarship:

The TGTW x aVOW Scholarship was created to support self-identifying, college-bound womxn who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, leadership, and a commitment to community service. The recipient’s impressive GPA, extensive involvement in extracurricular activities, and inspiring essay responses make them a standout candidate.

As a recipient of this scholarship, young women are granted $1,000.00 USD to bolster their educational pursuits. Moreover, they will be welcomed into a supportive network committed to nurturing their development and inspiring them to give back. Congratulations to Mia PC, from the Academy of Finance and Enterprise!

2024 NAF Alumni Award (Will be Celebrated at NAF Next 2024):

Shatiek Gatlin, The High School of Economics and Finance, AOF, Class of 2012, NAF ALC Member and Former Chair, MBA Candidate, Columbia Business School, NYC.

Shatiek Gatlin has taken his AOF education from The High School of Economics and Finance and has spread the teachings and lessons he learned to every institution, company, and organization he has been involved with ever since. When Shatiek attended Babson University, he used NAF to connect with other NAF alums who have or had attended Babson and continues to make connections through NAF’s Alumni Leadership Council, or ALC for short. In fact, he was the youngest founding member of the ALC and recently finished serving as the Chair.

NAF National Partner Internship Program – NYC Internship offers:

NAF’s National Partner Internship Program enables NAF academy students to apply and participate in paid internships offered by notable employer partners every summer. These internships enable students to explore career options, make invaluable connections, plan for their future, and gain hands-on experience beyond traditional public education. NAF’s results-driven design, implemented through public and private partnerships, aims to prepare high school students for the future, while engaging them in transformative experiences outside of the classroom.
