BIRMINGHAM – AL –
Some 40 seniors from Wenonah High School got a chance to learn event planning from the pros.
The Birmingham education foundation teamed up with the Wenonah Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. This was part of the Birmingham Education Foundation’s “Bridging the Gap” program.
The mission, is to build a bridge between students and their future.
Students met with members of Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. They got a behind the scenes look at the Birmingham Crossplex and the events that take place at the facility.
They’re learning how to plan an event, set up and make it a success.
“It’s an industry where they can go straight from high school. It doesn’t necessarily require college, but if they do have a college education, they can go into a career in management. So it’s an opportunity for them to be career and college ready,” says academy coordinator Angela Smith.
This is part of Wenonah’s work based learning experience. ThisĀ give students a hands on approach, learning on-site with men and women in the hospitality industry.
