Schools Superintendent Louann Carlomagno recently had the opportunity to attend a small group roundtable discussion in San Francisco with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. The topic was how work-based learning and how enlisting the engagement of the corporate community can help students reach higher standards and prepare for college and careers. Also participating were representatives from the National Academy Foundation (NAF), Google, Apple, and a handful of other senior school officials.†
Said Carlomagno, “I was honored to be invited and the timing was ideal as we work with NAF to further explore the student benefits of work-based learning academies like our technology, engineering and design program at Sonoma Valley High.” Also in attendance was Mike Conway, a Prestwood Elementary School parent of triplets who serves as chief of staff to financier and Sandy Weill, who is the founder and chairman of the National Academy Foundation.
