Clarence, NY – This past summer, Kloss, Stenger & LoTempio partnered with the Clarence High School Academy of Business & Finance to provide paid internships to two academy students, Mitchell Snyder and Tyler Bird.

Attorney Justin D. Kloss, who is also on the Clarence Academy’s Board of Advisors, had an opportunity to work closely with the student interns.

“Both Mitchell and Tyler were enthusiastic and eager to learn the skills necessary to succeed in today’s business climate, Kloss stated.”

Kloss, Stenger & LoTempio, whose diverse areas of practice include business and intellectual property litigation, provided the students with opportunities to witness the progression of lawsuits from start to finish. The interns assisted with the preparation of Civil Complaints, Discovery Requests and Responses, as well as Post-Trial Motions.

Mitchell Snyder reflected on the most important lesson he learned throughout the process:

“During my internship, I learned how important attention to detail is because it is your name and your client’s name that are on the line if there is an error…and your client is depending on you.”

Tyler Bird discussed his personal improvement:

“The tasks I was assigned improved my critical reading skills and my communications skills, as I had to effectively inform my supervising attorneys in a succinct, yet thorough manner.”

The students also had the opportunity to assist with a patent infringement and breach of contract suit that is currently pending in Federal Court. The students, who were unfamiliar with how intellectual property litigation worked, were amazed when during their research they discovered the litigation between Apple and Samsung.

“It really brought the concept home to me,said Snyder, I was doing the same work that the attorneys for Apple and Samsung were doing.”

The Clarence Academy, which is part of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), is a leader in the movement to prepare young people for college and career success. The internship program, together with the in-school instruction, is part of NAF’s educational model that promotes industry-focused curricula, work-based learning experiences, and internships. You can learn more about NAF on its website, https://naf.org.

Despite the demanding nature of the internship, it appears that at least one intern, Mitchell Snyder, is determined to pursue a career in law.

“It is my goal to attend law school and become a trial attorney. My experience in the litigation department at Kloss, Stenger & LoTempio reaffirmed my belief that the law is the right career path for me.”

said Snyder. While Tyler Bird is interested in pursuing a field that blends the law with the pharmaceutical industry.

Kloss, Stenger & LoTempio is proud to give back to the community and the local area youth by volunteering in the classrooms, acting as mentors, engaging NAF students in paid internships, and serving on its local Academy of Business & Finance Advisory Board.
