Lancaster-Depew Federal Credit Union’s student-run branch has been given new life since its start in 2014, thanks to remodeling efforts by the firm Millington Lockwood.

School staff and credit union workers celebrated the remodel Jan. 11, showing off the spacious new digs.

Improvements included a formal teller line, brand new chairs, additional computers and a private meeting space.

The Lancaster Legends are tied into the design and influenced the color scheme, which features the school’s colors of red and black.

“We literally went from working from a small closet in the hallway to a professional and efficient branch inside the school,” said Mary Sullivan, school branch supervisor at Lancaster High School.

“Our goal is to get the students and staff involved with the credit union, and this remodel has radiated excitement and interest throughout the school.”

The branch is fully functional, with a few restrictions on what types of transactions can be completed.

Lancaster High School’s Academy of Finance students work as tellers and complete member transactions for both students and staff under the supervision of a Lancaster Depew FCU employee.

Two interns per semester also assist with the school’s credit union. The student-run credit union aims to give students a firsthand look at the world of credit unions, what they are and how they function.

“My internship with the Lancaster-Depew FCU has shown me that business and finance isn’t what everyone makes it out to be. We’ve created marketing promotions, learned about handling money and dealt with members of all ages – I’ve learned so many useful skills,” said intern Rosemary Miranda.
