On Wednesday, March 4th the Huntington Chamber of Commerce announced its 2015 “30 under 30 Celebrate Long Island’s Young Professionals” Award Winners. Northport Students Mean Business (NSMB) is proud to announce that NSMB President and Academy of Finance (AOF) alumnus Connor Nolan has been named as a recipient.

The “30 under 30” awards honor young professionals who have made outstanding contributions to their businesses, the greater business community, as well as their community at large. Nolan is currently a full time student at Suffolk Community College majoring in marketing with an expected graduation date of December 2015. Nolan is a licensed real estate salesperson for Laffey Fine Homes in Huntington and is a 2011 alumnus of Northport High School.

Nolan has been a driving force behind the Northport High School Academy of Finance program since joining its advisory board in 2012; and since being named President of NSMB, has spearheaded a number of initiatives including: the launch of the NSMB website ( www.nsmbaof.org) and the design and planning for future fundraising activities.

John Desio, Chairman of the AOF Advisory Board had this to say about Nolan: “Connor is truly dedicated to the Academy. He plays a vital role in its continued growth and success”.

AOF Coordinator Allison Schwabish said of Nolan: “Connor Nolan is an exemplary addition to the advisory board because he is an alumnus of the program. The fabric of AOF is its alumni and Connor has continually given back to the program as he commits 150% of his time and efforts. He offers great insight as he attends NAF Conferences, field trips, recruitment sessions and more. I believe the success of AOF is because of students like Connor.”

A recipient of the “30 under 30” award in 2014, NSMB Secretary and fellow AOF advisory board member Joseph Alicata offered his thoughts on Nolan’s selection: “Connor is an outstanding person to work with; his hard work and dedication to his work professionally, along with his work with the AOF and NSMB shows how committed he is to his community and the students at Northport High School. It is an honor to work with someone of Connor’s character and he is certainly deserving of this prestigious distinction.”

The 7th Annual “Celebrate Long Island’s Young Professionals” Awards will be held on Wednesday, May 6th at the Crest Hollow Country Club.

About Us

The Academy of Finance (AOF) is a program that prepares students for a career in the Financial Services Industry. AOF is a national program established by Industry to develop students with the skills and knowledge to succeed in this fast-paced growth area of business. The AOF partnership bridges the gap between the classroom and the workplace by allowing students to participate in numerous shadow days, go on field trips to the world’s financial center, have many experts in the field speak to their classes and have a paid summer internship.

Northport Students Mean Business Inc.(NSMB), a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, serves as the fundraising arm of the AOF program, leveraging its capabilities as a non-profit organization to pursue fundraising opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach of the AOF program. Northport Students Mean Business Inc. is overseen by a dedicated Board of Directors, headed by President and AOF alumnus Connor Nolan with support from Treasurer John DeFalco, 1st Vice President Todd Bellestiri, Secretary Joseph Alicata and Director Linda Furey.
