Getting to Know Matthew LeMoine
The Journal News: Were you disappointed in how the cross country season ended (failing to qualify for states) after making it last year?
Matthew LeMoine: Everyone gave it their all. We did everything we possibly could. I know I gave it my all in the end.
TJN: What events do you run in track?
ML: I run anything from an 800, to a 1,000, to a mile, to the two-mile — whatever my coaches have asked me to do I’ve always done.
TJN: Are you looking forward to Sunday’s first indoor track meet of the season for North Rockland?
ML: Yes, I’ve had this circled since the end of cross country. I’m ready to get back to racing on the track. I want to get the season off to a good start.
TJN: How did the Academy of Finance help influence you majoring in accounting next year?
ML: The academy’s helped me a lot. I went into it not knowing if business was something I wanted to do. After taking the classes and having an internship this past summer — where I did things with accounting and payroll — I realized it was something I wanted to continue doing. I am thinking about minoring in sports management.
TJN: Why minor in sports management?
ML: I took a sports marketing class a couple of years ago as a sophomore. I’m a big sports fan with the Rangers, the Nets and all the local teams. I realized it was something I didn’t want to major in but minoring in it could give me more opportunities and maybe pair the two later on. Maybe become a sports agent.
