Promising Practice – Recruiting Girls to IT

Immokalee High School Academy of Information Technology focuses on female recruitment to their academy in efforts to increase the percentage of young women in the tech industry.

With an open enrollment policy, the Academy of Information Technology at Immokalee High School has prioritized promoting females in IT – an industry where young women are lacking. Some recent accomplishments of female students in the academy include: winning awards in the National Center for Women in Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing contest and receiving an honorable mention in the “Creativity and Innovation in the Solution” category for the 2018 Lenovo Scholar Network mobile app competition for providing a resource to increase security. The result is young women with increased confidence and pride in their accomplishments.
