My Journey as a Creative Services Intern at NAF
My name is Joey, and I am from the sunny state of Florida. Growing up, I have always been a creative person and picked up basic and complex Adobe skills in middle school, as I edited my own YouTube videos. It’s amazing to think about how I was just sitting in my room one day doing something I just enjoyed doing, and now it has become both my passion and part-time hustle. As an alumnus from Brandon High School, Academy of Information Technology, I have had the incredible opportunity to act as a Creative Services Intern at NAF, an experience that has had a profound impact on my life and aspirations.
My first introduction to NAF was an unexpected twist of fate, courtesy of my high school Customer Service teacher. Reflecting on that unanticipated moment, I often wonder what might have unfolded had I crossed paths with this organization sooner. Nevertheless, my time at NAF has proven to be an immensely rewarding adventure, and I’m thrilled to share some of the insights and takeaways that have shaped my journey.
Stepping into the role of an intern at NAF was, for me, a leap of faith. I was relatively unfamiliar with the program and its offerings, until that pivotal moment. Little did I know that Summer 2022 would open doors to personal and professional growth far beyond my wildest expectations. Though this was meant to be a short-term experience after high school, the NAF team really enjoyed my work and were eager to see more!
My NAF academy experience has been nothing short of amazing. Through this internship, I’ve had the privilege of gaining a rich tapestry of new skills and expanding my knowledge across a range of programs, such as Adobe After Effects and Canva, that are crucial in the creative industry. Each project I’ve undertaken has not only contributed to my portfolio but has also sharpened my skills, introducing me to new tools and techniques that will be invaluable assets in my future career.

Embarking on this journey during the summer, I must confess that I didn’t initially feel fully prepared. The creative field is renowned for its ever-evolving nature, and the initial challenges felt quite daunting. Nevertheless, as time passed and my confidence grew, I came to recognize that this path aligns perfectly with my true passion. I found myself adapting and learning quickly, thanks in no small part to the nurturing environment at NAF and the guidance of my talented colleagues.
As for my aspirations, they are both vast and ambitious. I envision a future where I continue my collaboration with NAF, while simultaneously exploring freelance opportunities in editing and animation. But the dream doesn’t stop there; I aspire to eventually offer courses and share my knowledge with fellow creatives. These are undoubtedly substantial undertakings, requiring unwavering dedication and persistence, yet I am resolute in my determination to see them through.
Throughout my time at NAF, I’ve gleaned instrumental lessons extending far beyond technical skills. I’ve discovered the transformative power of perseverance, the significance of embracing new challenges as avenues for growth, and the importance of continuously seeking opportunities for personal and professional development. My experience at NAF has solidified my belief in the boundless possibilities that come to fruition when one wholeheartedly pursues one’s passions.
