NAF Attends White House Summit on Next Generation High Schools
Dear Friends,
At the White House Summit on Next Generation High Schools, NAF joined a prestigious group of individuals and organizations working to transform high schools to better serve all students. We had the opportunity to share NAF’s proven strategies to solve some of the biggest challenges facing education and our economy.
In the United States, job forecasts indicate that upwards of 65% of all future employment opportunities will require some post-secondary education, be it a 4-year degree, master’s degree or technical or job specific training… yet we still live in a country where nearly 7,000 high school students drop out every day.
By connecting education, business, and community leaders, we are changing the national education and workforce development conversation to a more hopeful one.
With your help we grew from one Academy of Finance in New York to nearly 700 academies across the country and counting.
With your commitment we launched NAFTrack Certified Hiring, a promise made by many of America’s top companies – including AT&T; Cisco; EMC; Hewlett Packard Enterprise; JPMorgan Chase; Juniper Networks; KPMG LLP; Lenovo; Promontory Financial Group, LLC; Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP; Travelers; Verizon; and Xerox – to give special consideration to NAFTrack certified graduates.
With your innovation we continue to keep NAF curriculum “future ready” by infusing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) into all academy themes.
But there is more work to be done.
Our partners in this work at the Alliance for Excellent Education, America’s Promise Alliance, Civic Enterprises, and Everyone Graduates Center released new data showing that in just four years we have seen a significant reduction in the percentage of students who do not complete high school on time.
According to the White House Fact Sheet released yesterday, if we can sustain this over the next decade, this achievement dividend translates into more than 2.3 million more high school graduates, and $150 billion of additional lifetime wages earned.
We know we can’t do this alone. Each and every one of us can make a difference. Continue your commitment to Be Future Ready:
- Follow us on Twitter to see #NextGenHS highlights
- Share the White House Fact Sheet with your colleagues and on social media using @NAFCareerAcads on Twitter/Instagram and @NAF on Facebook
- Recruit more local business volunteers to help guide our future leaders
- Get your company involved and bring the boardroom to the classroom
- Donate now to improve students’ futures
I look forward to seeing what the future holds as we continue our work together.
Warmest Regards,
JD Hoye
