Demopolis High School has begun its open enrollment process for any ninth grade students who wish to participate and become part of the DHS National Academy Foundation (NAF) Academy of Finance and Insurance.
This will be the second grade level eligible for participation in this program.
Currently, the DHS NAF Academy has 53 10th grade students.
Academy Director Kelly Gandy said 23 ninth grade students have already committed to this educational track for the next three years.
She said that being involved in the program allows students to learn life skills in finance and insurance as they prepare for the work force or higher education.
NAF provides students with opportunity for work-based learning as well as guest speakers, field trips and on-the job training to better understand job opportunities in these fields, as well as practicing their essential skills first hand.
NAF has its own board of directors that supports and mentors these students throughout their high school career.
Some classes offered within NAF are principles of accounting, principles of finance, financial planning, entrepreneurship, business ethics, business economics and personal and commercial insurance.
Academic Counselor Leslie May recommends students participate in the program because it provides pathways for scholarships and gives students opportunities to earn valuable credentials.
