Lenovo Data Center Group Employees Visit NAF academy classrooms across North Carolina to discuss STEM education and career opportunities

(New York, NY) – April 26, 2016: On April 19, NAF academy classrooms across the state of North Carolina welcomed Lenovo employee volunteers, both virtually and in person, as part of the second Lenovo in the Classroom Day. The 25 volunteers shared their time and expertise with students, providing information and personal stories about STEM skills and careers. The first Lenovo in the Classroom Day was held in November 2015 to foster conversation around the importance of STEM skills and STEM career opportunities. This is an increasingly important topic as STEM occupations are projected to grow by 17 percent from 2008-2018.

NAF academies operate in over 700 public high schools across the United States, partnering with businesses and community leaders to provide educators with ongoing support across one of five STEM career themes including finance, hospitality & tourism, IT, health sciences, and engineering.  Approximately 20 NAF academies participated in the latest Lenovo in the Classroom Day event.

In addition to Lenovo in the Classroom Day, Lenovo also partners with 30 NAF academies through the Lenovo Scholar Network. The program, now in its second year, is designed to enable the next generation of developers and entrepreneurs through a rich application development curriculum. As part of the program, Lenovo provides the NAF academies with Lenovo ThinkPad laptops and YOGA tablets to aid students in the coding, testing and development of mobile apps while also helping teachers and mentors with the implementation of STEM curriculum.
